Target Information

LIMK1 is a serine/threonine kinase involved in regulation of actin cytoskeletal changes via phosphorylation of cofilin. It plays a role in brain development and contains LIM domains—highly conserved cysteine-rich structures with two zinc fingers. The LIM motif mediates protein-protein interactions. LIMK1 and LIMK2 form a subfamily with two N-terminal LIM motifs and a C-terminal kinase domain. LIMK1 may participate in intracellular signaling and is implicated in the visuospatial cognitive deficits associated with Williams syndrome.
