Target Information
Alpha Tubulin forms a heterodimer with beta tubulin, each approximately 55 kDa in size. This heterodimer is the fundamental building block of microtubules, which are essential structural and transport components in nearly all eukaryotic cells. Microtubules play critical roles in maintaining cell shape, intracellular transport, and mitosis.
Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved across species. The alpha tubulin gene shows strong homology to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, with expression predominantly in morphologically differentiated neural cells.
