Target Information
SLC27A1 is a protein-coding gene that mediates the ATP-dependent import of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) into the cell by facilitating their translocation at the plasma membrane. It also exhibits acyl-CoA ligase activity for long-chain and very-long-chain fatty acids. SLC27A1 may function as a transporter or as part of a multimeric protein complex that enhances fatty acid uptake and accumulation. It plays a critical role in regulating LCFA substrate availability in tissues with high beta-oxidation or triglyceride synthesis activity and may influence cholesterol metabolism.
