Target Information
Tight junctions are a form of cell-to-cell adhesion in epithelial or endothelial sheets, forming continuous seals that act as barriers to solute and water movement through the paracellular space. Claudin 6 is a component of these junctions and a member of the claudin family. It is an integral membrane protein and serves as an entry cofactor for hepatitis C virus. Gene methylation may be involved in esophageal tumorigenesis. The CLDN6 gene is located adjacent to CLDN9 on chromosome 16.
