Target Information
EFHD1 (also known as Swiprosin-2 or SWS2) is an EF-hand and coiled-coil-containing adaptor protein identified in a neuronal cell line derived from the cerebellum of an adult p53- mouse. Further studies showed no difference in normal mice.
Its mRNA is widely expressed, undetectable in embryonic brain but increasing from postnatal to adult stages. In situ hybridization shows expression in neurons but not in white matter of the cerebellum and cerebrum.
EFHD1 is also highly expressed in testes, ovary, and kidney collecting ducts, suggesting a role in gametogenesis and water reabsorption in non-neuronal cells.
