Target Information
IFI-44 (interferon-induced protein 44), also known as p44 or MTAP44 (microtubule-associated protein 44), is a 444 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that aggregates into microtubular structures upon induction by IFN-β. Human IFI-44 shares 97% sequence similarity with its chimpanzee counterpart, indicating a conserved function. The IFI-44 gene is located on human chromosome 1, which contains over 3,000 genes and accounts for nearly 8% of the human genome. This chromosome includes numerous disease-associated genes involved in conditions such as familial adenomatous polyposis, Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, schizophrenia, and Usher syndrome.
