XDH는 퓨린의 산화 대사에 관여하는 몰리브덴 함유 하이드록실라아제 그룹에 속합니다. 이 효소는 호모다이머 형태이며, 가역적인 황화수소 산화 또는 비가역적 단백질 분해 변형을 통해 Xanthine Oxidase로 전환될 수 있습니다.
Xanthine dehydrogenase의 결함은 xanthinuria를 유발하며, 성인 호흡곤란 증후군(ARDS)에 기여하거나 산소 대사체 의존적 메커니즘을 통해 인플루엔자 감염을 악화시킬 수 있습니다.
