Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi, and is also secreted. Reducing expression increases susceptibility to ER stress-induced death and promotes cell proliferation.
Initially thought to contain an arginine-rich region, transcript evidence indicates a smaller open reading frame without that tract.
Polymorphisms in the arginine-rich region, including a mutation changing codon 50 from ATG to AGG, were reported in various tumors but later found in normal tissues, indicating non-tumor-related variation.
