Target Information
This gene encodes a receptor protein that interacts with a variety of psychotomimetic drugs, including cocaine and amphetamines. The receptor plays an important role in cellular functions of tissues associated with the endocrine, immune, and nervous systems. Formerly known as opioid receptor sigma 1 (OPRS1), it is now recognized as a non-opioid receptor. Alternative splicing results in transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
