Target Information
Nalcn is a voltage-independent, cation-nonselective channel permeable to sodium, potassium, and calcium ions. It regulates resting membrane potential and neuronal excitability. Neuropeptides such as neurotensin and substance P stimulate NALCN activation via SRC family kinases. Nalcn is involved in respiratory rhythm, osmoregulation, and intestinal pacemaking activity. It also plays a role in maintaining spontaneous firing and modulation of substantia nigra pars reticulata neurons.
Diseases associated with NALCN include congenital contractures, developmental delay, hypotonia, and infantile psychomotor retardation.
