F-box proteins are subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), which mediate phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
They are divided into three classes:
- Fbws: Containing WD-40 domains
- Fbls: Containing leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: Containing other protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
