Target Information
TPSB2 is a protein coding gene. Tryptases comprise a family of trypsin-like serine proteases, belonging to the peptidase family S1. They are enzymatically active only as heparin-stabilized tetramers and are resistant to endogenous proteinase inhibitors. Several tryptase genes are clustered on chromosome 16p13.3, characterized by conserved 3′ UTRs and tandem repeats that may regulate mRNA stability. These genes include an intron upstream of the initiator Met codon, separating transcription initiation from the protein-coding sequence—a feature unique to tryptases. Beta tryptases are mainly expressed in mast cells, while alpha tryptases predominate in basophils. Tryptases are implicated in asthma and other allergic and inflammatory disorders.
