세포 내 위치 (Cellular Localization)
Cytoplasm and nucleus. Localization is regulated by actin dynamics: high nuclear G-actin levels reduce nuclear MRTF-A, while reduced nuclear G-actin promotes its nuclear accumulation. Binding of G-actin in the cytoplasm inhibits nuclear import by masking the NLS. MICAL2-mediated depolymerization of nuclear actin promotes nuclear retention and complex formation with SRF.
Background
The protein encoded by this gene interacts with the transcription factor myocardin, a key regulator of smooth muscle cell differentiation. It is predominantly nuclear and may transduce cytoskeletal signals to the nucleus. A specific translocation event involving this gene and RBM15 has been associated with acute megakaryocytic leukemia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
