배경(Background)
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and function in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition—opposite to prokaryotic ribosomes. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The protein composition of mitoribosomes varies significantly among species, complicating sequence-based identification. This gene encodes a 39S subunit protein, with three transcript variants producing two isoforms. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 5q (RefSeq, Nov 2010).
