Antibody detects endogenous levels of total IFI16.
Target Information
IFI16 (gamma-interferon-inducible protein 16) binds double-stranded DNA, preferentially to supercoiled and cruciform DNA structures. It is involved in transcriptional regulation and acts as a transcriptional repressor. IFI16 may regulate hematopoietic differentiation through activation of unknown target genes and control cellular proliferation by modulating p53/TP53 and retinoblastoma protein functions.
IFI16 plays a role in innate immune response by recognizing viral dsDNA in the cytosol and nucleus. Upon binding viral DNA, IFI16 recruits TMEM173/STING and mediates IFN-beta induction. It is essential for activation of the IFR3 signaling cascade during human herpes simplex virus 1 infection, promoting heterochromatin assembly on viral DNA and inhibiting viral gene expression and replication. IFI16 also participates in MTA1-mediated epigenetic regulation of ESR1 expression in breast cancer.
