Target Information
Granzyme B is a member of the granzyme serine protease family found in the granules of cytotoxic T cells and NK cells. It is also known as CGL1 (cathepsin G-like-1) and CTLA-1 (cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated serine esterase 1). Granzyme B plays a critical role in inducing apoptosis in target cells through interaction with cytotoxic T cells. It binds to the mannose 6-phosphate receptor, functioning as a death receptor, and activates caspase-3 to initiate DNA fragmentation. Granzyme B can also induce mitochondrial apoptosis by cleaving Bid protein. Granzymes are neutral serine proteases stored in specialized lytic granules of CTLs and NK cells. Several granzymes (A–G) have been identified in mice, while fewer have been cloned in humans.
