Target Information

Heterogeneous nuclear RNAs (hnRNAs), including mRNA precursors and mature mRNAs, are associated with specific proteins to form heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) complexes.
Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein L (hnRNP-L) is among the proteins stably associated with hnRNP complexes and plays a major role in mRNA formation, packaging, processing, and function.
hnRNP-L is present in the nucleoplasm as part of the hnRNP complex but can also be found outside the nucleoplasm.
Exchange of hnRNP for mRNA-binding proteins accompanies transport of mRNA from nucleus to cytoplasm.
Since hnRNP proteins shuttle between nucleus and cytoplasm, they may also have cytoplasmic functions.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
