Target Information
Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are a complex class of voltage-gated ion channels with diverse physiological roles including regulation of neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume.
Four sequence-related potassium channel genes—shaker, shaw, shab, and shal—have been identified in Drosophila, each with human homologs.
KCND3 encodes a member of the voltage-gated, shal-related subfamily forming A-type potassium ion channels, crucial for the repolarization phase of the action potential. Two isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
