Target Information
TEM8 encodes a type I transmembrane protein and serves as a tumor-specific endothelial marker implicated in colorectal cancer.
It also functions as a receptor for Bacillus anthracis toxin (anthrax).
Binding of the protective antigen (PA) component to TEM8 mediates delivery of toxin components (EF and LF) into the cytosol, where they disrupt normal cellular processes.
Three alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
