FBJ murine osteosarcoma viral oncogene homolog, commonly known as c-Fos, belongs to the Fos transcription factor family and is encoded by the C-FOS gene on chromosome 14.
c-Fos forms a heterodimer with c-Jun to create the Activator Protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factor, which regulates genes involved in signal transduction, proliferation, and differentiation.
Phosphorylation occurs at multiple sites, including Ser32 and Thr232, mediated by kinases such as ERK MAPK, which influence nuclear localization and transcriptional activity.
