Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory component of myosin phosphatase that modulates actin–myosin interactions downstream of the small GTPase Rho.
Activated RhoA (GTP·RhoA) interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) of myosin phosphatase, influencing phosphorylation of the myosin light chain (MLC). Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP·RhoA, phosphorylates and inactivates myosin phosphatase. Overexpression or activation of RhoA in NIH 3T3 cells increases MBS and MLC phosphorylation, suggesting Rho inhibits myosin phosphatase through Rho-kinase activity. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
