Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance through the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, and different cyclins have distinct expression and degradation patterns to coordinate mitotic events. Cyclin D3 forms a complex with CDK4 or CDK6, required for the G1/S transition, and participates in phosphorylation of tumor suppressor protein Rb. CDK4 activity associated with this cyclin is necessary for progression through G2 phase into mitosis after UV radiation. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist. Diseases associated with CCND3 include Retinoblastoma and Plasma Cell Leukemia.
