Target Information
LHCGR encodes the receptor for both luteinizing hormone and choriogonadotropin. It belongs to family 1 of G-protein coupled receptors (FSH/LH/TSH superfamily).
Its primary function is to act as a gonadotropin receptor regulating the development and function of Leydig cells in males, and it plays a key role in male secondary sexual characteristic development.
Mutations in this receptor can lead to disorders such as familial male precocious puberty and male pseudohermaphroditism.
