Target Information
SMARCA2 encodes a protein that is part of the SWI/SNF family, highly similar to the brahma protein of Drosophila.
Members of this family possess helicase and ATPase activities and regulate transcription by modifying chromatin structure.
The encoded protein is a component of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI, essential for transcriptional activation of genes normally repressed by chromatin.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, and the gene contains a trinucleotide repeat (CAG) length polymorphism.
