Description

Guard columns and retention gaps are widely used in gas chromatography for different purposes.
A guard column traps nonvolatile material at the head of the column, preventing it from reaching and contaminating the analytical column.
A retention gap helps focus compounds transferred from the inlet into a narrow band at the head of the analytical column, minimizing chromatographic peak broadening.

Siltek-treated stainless-steel MXT guard columns provide excellent compatibility with MXT analytical columns, offering the strength of metal with the inertness of glass.
These guard columns can also function as retention gaps.
