Fibrillin 1은 높은 시스테인 함량을 가지며, 다양한 세포외 모듈로 구성된 실 모양의 산성 단백질입니다. 전체 구조 중 47개의 epidermal growth factor-like (EGF-like) 반복 서열로 구성되어 있으며, 이 중 43개는 칼슘 결합 서열을 포함합니다.
또한 8-cysteine 모티프(7개), hybrid 모티프(2개), unique 도메인(3개)이 존재합니다.
Fibrillin 1은 N-말단 근처의 프롤린이 풍부한 영역을 가지며, Fibrillin 2에서는 해당 부위가 글라이신이 풍부한 영역으로 대체됩니다.
이 단백질들은 결합 조직 전반에 걸쳐 분포하며, 섬유 구조의 주요 구성 요소로 작용합니다.
