Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes approximately half of the total blood serum protein. It primarily functions as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and plays an essential role in maintaining extracellular fluid volume stability. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000. It is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential processing to form proalbumin and then mature albumin, secreted from the Golgi vesicles.
