This antibody detects endogenous levels of total mGluR7.
Target Information
L-glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It activates both ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors. Glutamatergic neurotransmission is involved in most aspects of normal brain function and can be perturbed in various neuropathologic conditions.
The metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) are G protein-coupled receptors divided into three groups based on sequence homology, signaling mechanisms, and pharmacologic properties:
- Group I: GRM1, GRM5 — activate phospholipase C
- Group II: GRM2, GRM3
- Group III: GRM4, GRM6, GRM7, GRM8
Groups II and III are linked to inhibition of the cyclic AMP cascade but differ in agonist selectivities. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
