Target Information
The SMN complex plays a catalytic role in the assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are essential components of the spliceosome. It is critical for pre-mRNA splicing. Most spliceosomal snRNPs contain a common set of Sm proteins (SNRPB, SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPD3, SNRPE, SNRPF, SNRPG) that form a heptameric ring around the Sm site of small nuclear RNA. The SMN complex facilitates the transition of Sm proteins from an inactive cytosolic complex (6S pICln-Sm) to the active SMN-Sm complex, enabling snRNP assembly and nuclear transport.
