Target Information

Interferons (IFNs) are involved in numerous immune interactions during viral infections and play major roles in the induction and regulation of innate and adaptive antiviral mechanisms. During infection, host-virus interactions activate downstream molecules such as transcription factors IFN regulatory factor-3 (IRF3), which stimulate transcription of IFN-α/β genes. IRF7 contributes to transcriptional activation of virus-inducible cellular genes, including interferon beta chain genes.
IRF7 plays a major role in the innate immune pathway, interacting with Toll-like receptor (TLR) adaptor proteins MyD88 and Tirp/TRAM, functioning as an intermediate in TLR4 and TLR9 signaling.
There are at least four differentially spliced isoforms of IRF7, though their functions have not been clearly established.
