KRT24는 제1형(산성) 케라틴 패밀리에 속하는 단백질을 암호화하며, 중간 필라멘트(IF) 단백질 상위 패밀리에 속합니다. 케라틴은 이종중합 구조 단백질로, 액틴 미세섬유 및 미세소관과 함께 상피세포의 세포골격을 구성합니다. 제1형 케라틴 유전자는 염색체 17q12-q21 영역에 클러스터되어 있습니다.
