Target Information
Collapsin-response mediator proteins (CRMPs) are highly expressed in the developing brain and play key roles in axonal outgrowth, neurite differentiation, and apoptosis. Their continued expression in regions such as the cerebellum, hippocampus, and olfactory system suggests a role in adult brain plasticity.
CRMP-1, initially identified as a dihydropyrimidinase expressed in the brain, is involved in NT3-induced neurite formation and outgrowth. Its localization changes from axonal to somatodendritic as neurons mature, indicating a role in both early neuronal differentiation and later neuronal survival or death processes.
