Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Defensins are a family of antimicrobial and cytotoxic peptides involved in host defense. They are abundant in neutrophil granules and present in epithelial tissues of mucosal surfaces such as intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family share high sequence similarity and a conserved cysteine motif. Several alpha defensin genes are clustered on chromosome 8. The DEFA4 gene differs by an extra 83-base segment, likely from a recent duplication within the coding region. The encoded protein, defensin alpha 4, is found in neutrophils and exhibits corticostatic activity by inhibiting corticotropin-stimulated corticosterone production.
