KISS1 유전자는 흑색종 및 유방암의 전이를 억제하는 전이 억제 유전자로 알려져 있습니다. 이 단백질은 세포 이동 및 침윤을 억제하여 악성 흑색종의 전이를 완화할 수 있습니다. 세포-기질 부착 이후의 세포골격 재조직화 조절에도 관여할 가능성이 있습니다.
KISS1 유전자의 산물인 키스펩틴(kisspeptin)은 생식샘자극호르몬 방출호르몬(GnRH) 유도성 생식샘자극호르몬 분비를 자극하며, 사춘기 시 GnRH 뉴런의 활성화를 조절합니다. 말단 엑손의 다형성은 두 가지 단백질 아이소폼을 생성하며, 특정 염기의 존재 여부에 따라 단백질 길이가 7개의 아미노산 잔기만큼 차이납니다.
