Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and plays a vital role in brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been linked to tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. The most common genetic alteration is chromosomal rearrangement that creates a fusion gene between ALK and nucleophosmin (NPM). The NPM-ALK fusion product is oncogenic. ALK is a novel receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane and extracellular domain, showing high sequence similarity to LTK. It is essential for neuronal development and signaling in the nervous system.
