PHYHD1 (phytanoyl-CoA dioxygenase domain containing 1)는 291개의 아미노산으로 구성된 단백질로, PHYH family 및 PHYHD1 subfamily에 속합니다. 인간 염색체 9q34.11에 위치한 유전자로부터 발현되며, 세 가지 alternative splicing isoform을 가집니다.
PHYHD1은 alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase로서 금속 이온 결합과 oxidoreductase 활성을 가지며, 산소 두 원자의 도입을 통해 단일 donor에 작용합니다. PHYH (phytanoyl-CoA 2-hydroxylase)와 관련된 Fe(II) 및 2-oxoglutarate(2OG)-dependent oxygenase로, phytenic acid의 peroxisomal 분해에서 초기 alpha-oxidation 단계를 촉매합니다.
또한, PHYHD1은 다양한 metazoan과 세균에서 유사 단백질을 가지며, 초기 간 발달 및 포유류 분화 과정에서 DNA 메틸화에 관여할 가능성이 있습니다.
