이 유전자는 degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (DEG/ENaC) 초가족의 구성원을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질군은 아밀로리드 민감성 나트륨 채널로, 세포 내 N 및 C 말단, 2개의 소수성 막관통 영역, 많은 시스테인 잔기를 포함한 큰 세포외 루프를 갖습니다. ASIC1은 세포외 수소이온에 의해 개폐되는 양이온 채널로, 나트륨에 높은 친화도를 가지며 아밀로리드에 의해 억제됩니다. Ca²⁺, Li⁺, K⁺에도 투과성이 있으며, 다양한 뇌 영역(후근신경절, 후각구, 해마, 소뇌 등)에 발현됩니다. Isoform 3은 후근신경절(DRG)에만, Isoform 1은 DRG, 척수, 삼차신경절 등에 발현됩니다.
