Target Information
ORM1 is an acute phase plasma protein synthesized by the liver. It regulates interactions between blood cells and endothelial cells and, together with haptoglobin and C-reactive protein, modulates cell extravasation during infection and inflammation. ORM1 is a major acute phase reactant in both humans and rats. In human plasma, ORM1 (44 kDa) is present at 0.5–1.4 mg/mL, and its concentration increases during acute inflammation (e.g., trauma, malignancies, myocardial infarction, rheumatoid arthritis, bacterial infections, post-surgery, or chronic pain). It can be used as a biomarker for inflammatory conditions.
