Target Information

RASSF1 encodes a protein similar to RAS effector proteins. Altered expression or loss of this gene is associated with various cancers, suggesting a tumor suppressor role. Inactivation is correlated with hypermethylation of its CpG-island promoter region. The protein interacts with DNA repair protein XPA and inhibits cyclin D1 accumulation, inducing cell cycle arrest. Seven alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
