Target Information

The ARID1A gene encodes a member of the SWI/SNF family, which includes proteins with helicase and ATPase activities that regulate transcription by modifying chromatin structure. The encoded protein is part of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI, necessary for transcriptional activation of genes normally repressed by chromatin.
It contains two conserved domains:

1. A DNA-binding domain that recognizes AT-rich sequences at the beta-globin locus.
2. A C-terminal domain that stimulates glucocorticoid receptor-dependent transcriptional activation.

This protein confers specificity to the SNF/SWI complex and may recruit it to target sites through protein-DNA or protein-protein interactions. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
