Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and acts locally to modulate lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency increases HDL cholesterol in animals. LIPG exhibits phospholipase activity and plays roles in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It belongs to the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region providing substrate specificity. LIPG functions as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in dietary fat digestion, and binds to heparin.
