Target Information
The Sec61 complex is responsible for translocation of proteins across the rough endoplasmic reticulum membrane. It consists of three subunits—alpha, beta, and gamma—that form a heterotrimer. Multiple heterotrimers associate to form the ER translocon. Sec61 alpha is a polytopic protein with ten membrane-spanning loops. It is tightly associated with membrane-bound ribosomes and is essential for assembly of membrane and secretory proteins.
