Target Information
Interleukin 12A (IL-12A) is a signaling cytokine belonging to the Interleukin-6 protein superfamily. IL-12A encodes the 35-kDa alpha chain of the heterodimeric cytokine IL-12, which exhibits diverse biological activities.
IL-12A can act as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhancing NK/lymphokine-activated killer cell lytic activity. It stimulates IFN-γ production by resting PBMCs and induces IFN-γ independently of T cells. IL-12A contributes to differentiation of Th1 and Th2 cells and positively regulates Stat4 tyrosine phosphorylation.
In innate immunity, IL-12A signaling requires nitric oxide synthase 2A. Together with EBI3, IL-12A forms interleukin-35 (IL-35), a heterodimeric cytokine produced by regulatory T cells that is essential for maximal suppressive activity.
