Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.

• The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings).
• The 19S regulator includes a base with ATPase and non-ATPase subunits, and a lid with up to 10 non-ATPase subunits.
  Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
  The immunoproteasome processes class I MHC peptides and contains the 11S regulator (PA28) instead of the 19S regulator.
  This gene encodes the gamma subunit of the 11S regulator, forming a homohexameric ring. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
