Target Information
Human Rad18 (hRad18) is a homologue of S. pombe Rad18. In yeast, Rad6 and Rad18 play a crucial role in post-replication repair, particularly in gap-filling of daughter strands during replication of damaged DNA. The Rad6–Rad18 complex is essential for lesion bypass and binds to damaged DNA through Rad18’s single-stranded DNA binding activity. The human RAD18 gene, located on chromosome 3p24–25, encodes a 495-amino-acid protein (~56 kDa) and is expressed ubiquitously across human tissues. This region is often deleted in lung, breast, ovary, and testis cancers.
