This antibody detects endogenous levels of total Synphilin-1.

Target Information

Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s, affecting approximately 1% of people over 65 and 3% over 75. Mutations in the SNCAIP gene, encoding Synphilin-1, are among the most common genetic causes of Parkinson’s disease.

Synphilin-1 contains multiple protein–protein interaction domains and interacts with alpha-synuclein in neurons. The amino acid sequence of Synphilin-1 shows extensive homology with its human counterpart, particularly in ankyrin-like motifs and coiled-coil domains. Expression patterns in mouse tissues are similar to those in humans.

Synphilin-1 plays an important role in aggregate formation and cytotoxicity in Parkinson’s disease. The E3 ubiquitin ligase Dorfin may participate in the pathogenic process through ubiquitylation of Synphilin-1. Synphilin-1 is implicated in synaptic function, protein degradation, and molecular mechanisms leading to neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease.
