Protein kinase C (PKC)는 serine 및 threonine 특이적 단백질 키나아제 계열로, calcium 및 diacylglycerol에 의해 활성화됩니다. PKC 계열은 다양한 세포 신호 전달 경로에 관여하며, phorbol ester(종양 촉진제)의 주요 수용체로 작용합니다. 각 PKC family member는 고유한 발현 프로파일을 가지며, 세포 내에서 특정 역할을 수행합니다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 PKC family의 일원으로, G 단백질 결합 수용체 작용제에 의해 빠르게 활성화되며, 세포질과 핵 모두에 존재합니다. 활성화 시 핵 내 축적이 현저히 증가하며, B-cell antigen receptor(BCR) 결합 후에도 활성화될 수 있습니다.
