Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells, but also in other immune cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is found in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. CD4 aids in T-cell activation through interaction with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
