Target Information

NMD3 is a cytoplasmic factor required for a late cytoplasmic assembly step of the 60S ribosomal subunit but is not itself a ribosomal protein.
A mutation in NMD3 is lethal in the absence of XRN1, the major cytoplasmic exoribonuclease responsible for mRNA turnover.
Although the NMD3 protein sequence lacks recognizable motifs of known function, its orthologues contain an amino-terminal domain with four Cx2C repeats, reminiscent of zinc-binding proteins, suggesting roles in nucleic acid binding or protein oligomerization.
