Product Specific Information
Store at -70°C or below for retention of full activity.
Thaw product vial by incubation in cold tap water until just thawed.
Aliquot and refreeze unused contents to minimize effects of freeze-thawing.
Refreezing should be done on dry ice or in a dry ice/alcohol bath.
Further dilution of product should be in buffers containing protein such as 0.1% BSA or tissue culture media with serum.
Dilution for freezing of material below 2×10^5 units/mL is not recommended.
One freeze-thaw cycle is equivalent to thawing an aliquot prepared from the material received.
Target Information
IFN alpha (Interferon alpha) is a Type I interferon belonging to a family of structurally related, species-specific proteins exclusive to vertebrates.
Interaction with its receptor activates multiple signaling pathways involved in innate immune response against viral infection.
In humans, the IFN alpha gene is located on chromosome 9.
Type I interferons consist of 14 alpha isoforms and single beta, omega, epsilon, and kappa isoforms.
Homologous molecules are found in many species, including rats, mice, birds, reptiles, and fish.
IFN alpha is produced primarily by plasmacytoid dendritic cells and plays a key role in antiviral innate immunity and modulation of adaptive immunity.
Diseases associated with IFN alpha dysfunction include Hepatitis C and Hepatitis.
